Back to brands for the BIZ race car

Max was back in the driving seat last weekend. This time, at the GP layout of Brands Hatch. Here’s how it went down:

Coming from the tough meeting at the Mini Festival, I was keen to get my championship hopes back to life on the return to the British GT paddock. For the 6th round of the year, I was back at Brands Hatch but this time I was racing at the GP layout of the circuit! Unfortunately, it looked as if my Brands Hatch curse was continuing though due to bad luck in nearly every session of the weekend!

It all started at qualifying on Saturday morning, when heavy rain started lashing down before we were meant to go out onto the circuit. This was the first time I was going to get a taste for the GP layout as previously I have only raced on the Indy layout of the track. I was really getting thrown in to the deep end here having never driven the GP format before. Nonetheless, I got the BIZ Karts car onto the circuit and slowly started to learn the track. Due to the rain, it was very difficult to see anything on the circuit! After my first lap, my windscreen started to mist up really badly, leaving me with next to no vision which can be very daunting especially around the difficult circuit of Brands Hatch. This led me to make a horrible mistake of locking my front wheels up at Druids and dropping my front two wheels in the gravel, leaving me out of qualifying and only qualifying in a poor 14th position.

So for Race 1, I would start in 14th position on the grid but I was excited as knew it had the potential to be a great fun race fighting through the order to try and catch the front of the field! On the start, I had already made up two positions and felt the car really had some good pace, but the Brands Hatch curse was about to kick in! By lap 2, I was coming into the first corner and I had yet another driveshaft failure. I honestly couldn’t believe it; it was just my luck, especially as it was the opposite side to go which had failed at the previous meeting! So this left me out of the race and having to watch on the sidelines. As a racing driver, I’m not sure there is anything worse!
