Qualifying for the Cooper class took place on Saturday morning:
“I went into qualifying Saturday eager to go using the session as another test session and see where it would stand me. At the end I needed to find another 1 second to get me in the pack”.
Nevertheless, qualifying was great practice for Iain in his first car racing environment! Now for his first ever start in a car race..!
“Saturday afternoon arrived and it was time to get ready for my first race. Once on the grid, all nerves went but I managed to fluff the start as I’d never done this kind of start before! During the race, I gained more experience and better lap times again.
Race 2 and Race 3 took place on Sunday morning and afternoon.
“I turned up Sunday feeling positive as I’d spent some time going through the go-pro footage with Chris Smith, and had a better understanding of what I needed to do gain time. Both races didn’t go completely to plan! I messed up both starts again and was a little disappointed that my pace was slower than Saturday. Nevertheless, I would like to say a big thanks to the whole BIZ team for giving me this experience, The whole setup of the team was outstanding (BIZ/Excelr8) I enjoyed the whole weekend and learnt so much about driving a race car. I now have the bug to do more, hopefully in the future be nice to get back out again in the mini challenge.
The Champions Challenge Team would like to say a massive well done to Iain! We really hope you had a unforgettable weekend. You were great to have around – really eager to learn and it was great that you managed to get your lap times down on the Saturday.
